Try as I may there is rarely a day when I don’t have some make up on. I think it’s something to do with feeling ready for the day coupled with also giving myself a mask…especially when I have breakouts. That said I am quite religious about making sure I remove it all and cleanse before I go to bed to avoid causing anymore blemishes.
Over the years I’ve tried a number of different make-up removers at the end of the day from cotton wool and make up remover, to cleansing wipes. Of the all the removers I’ve tried, I have always been a big fan of Simple because I found the cleanser was gentle on my skin given that it has:
No artificial Colour or perfume
No harsh Chemicals
No alcohol
That said I have become only too conscious that using Simple make up remover and cotton wool or even the wipes (despite them being biodegradable) are not the best option for the environment. Instead there is a far better option which I would thoroughly recommend.
Canvalite Make Up Remover Pads
These make-up removal pads have 3 layers:
Cotton
Bamboo
Velvet layer at the top
The pads are really absorbent and great at removing the make-up from your face, and the velvet top layer means the process is very gentle on your skin. The best thing about these make up remover pads is the fact they are easily washable in the laundry bag provided when you buy them, and so offer a much more sustainable option than cotton wool. The pack I bought also came with 18 pads which means you are not rushed to wash them straight away before re-using which is ideal.
In terms of a make-up remover, I like to use Elemis Micellar Water with the Canvalite pads as the Rose, Chamomile and Micelles help to remove the make-up and dirt from the day leaving my skin feeling really clean and refreshed. It also leaves my skin with moisture as opposed to feeling dried out which I think helps to keep it clearer.
