Black-Owned Fashion Brands & Businesses to support

In light of recent events I have been taking some time to consider how I can join the fight for equality and support the Black community more.

One way I know I can immediately offer more support is by sharing some Black-owned fashion businesses that we should all be looking at and putting our money towards if we are buying something new.

So, here are some fabulous Black-owned businesses and brands together with pieces from each collection that I am currently coveting!

  • Kemi Telford – Womenswear, Accessories and Homewear that is beautifully colourful and in Yvonne’s words, ‘Encourage women to take up their rightful place’. Kemi Telford work hard to reduce wastage and reuse any fabrics where possible, also committing to ensure the safe working environment for workers and that standards are maintained.

  • Sancho’s – Men’s and Womenswear, Jewellery , Accessories, Home & Beauty. Sancho’s is a sustainable fashion & lifestyle store, where quality, responsibility and fairness in production is key in the the products they offer.

  • Sika – Offering great quality Women’s, Men’s and Kidswear all made in Africa with social and environmental responsibilities at their core. They have some fabulous pieces which are brought to life even more in their vibrant colours.

  • LemLem – Women’s, Men’s, Kids and Home Products made entirely in Africa where traditional weavers and artisan groups continue their art through the collection.

  • AAKS – Beautiful handbags handcrafted in Ghana. These handbags are made using ecologically harvested raffia and the use handcraft techniques make each bag unique.

  • Daughter of a Bohemian – Art, Women’s & Menswear, where the clothing sold is upcycled from existing garments to make beautiful one-offs. Their ethos is brilliant and the hand painted pieces are stunning – definitely worth a look.

  • Tongoro – Men’s & Womenswear and Accessories that are 100% made in Africa where materials used are only sourced from the continent and the collection is playful. I'm especially loving their tie dye pieces below!

My list is by no means definitive and it goes without saying that I will continue to add to it as we move forwards. My support for the Black community and businesses will be unwavering whilst I also listen, learn and talk more. In the meantime, I hope you find some of your own gems from these fashion businesses..
